GET: Wiimote keychain, Halo 3 stuff, a cheaper PS3

Bungie Day means free stuff -- I love it when companies see fit to name days after themselves. According to Bungie July 7th belongs to them - it's Bungie Day. We even get a day off work and everything. Because it falls on a weekend. We also get some free stuff:

  • 3D screenshots of Halo 3
  • A page of info on the Brute Chopper
  • Info on Spartan variants C.Q.B. and E.V.A.
  • A free Halo 3 theme.
The downloads are only available for the duration of Bungie Day, meaning from approximately 2:00 AM PDT until midnight on Saturday (for those in the US).

Get a Wiimote keychain -- owners of Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree are elligible to receive a free Wiimote keychain if you follow a few simple steps. Details below.

Whatever Sony: buy a cheaper PS3 today -- The PS3 pricing controversy is getting curiouser and curiouser. According to PS3 Fanboy certain Target stores are already selling 60GB PS3s for $499 while, confusingly, other Target stores are still selling the console at $599. I'm not sure who this is more embarrassing for: Sony, or Target.

GET: Nintendosoup poster

Ben Fry has a unique game poster available for download. The images were created by extracting and rebuilding the code from a number of Nintendo titles.

This piece examines the unpacking of a Nintendo game cartridge, decoding the program as a four-color image, revealing a beautiful soup of the thousands of individual elements that make up the game screen.
The full poster is available as an 84 x 120cm .pdf and contains 4-color reconstructions of Contra Force, Double Dragon, Dr. Mario, Galaga, Galaxian, Bump n' Jump, Joust, Ninja Gaiden, Punch-Out, RBI Basketball, Burger Time, Super Mario, Yoshi, Super Mario 3, and Zelda II - Adventures of Link. The poster contains more than a hundred panels like the one pictured above, extracted from the Double Dragon cartridge.

GET: Oh Canada, Oh Canada

If you're a Canadian resident and hooked into Xbox Live treat yourself to some free gamer pics and a theme to celebrate Canada Day. And yes, I don't think the bat and squirrel gamer pics are part of the Canada Day bonus. Unless... Microsoft, what are you trying to say about Canadians, exactly?

The freebies are only available for a limited time so get your patriotic self into it. And yes, the first one is clearly the best.

GET: Free Eternal Sonata faceplate with pre-order

The official Eternal Sonata website is live and bearing good news: the game is available for pre-order at EB Games/GameStop. The 'good' bit is that you receive one of the above Eternal Sonata faceplates with your pre-order. Not sure if you get to choose, but either way, that's a pretty neat bonus.
